My Midlife Memoir Podcast Trailer
What if midlife isn't a crisis to survive, but an opportunity to finally come home to yourself?
Midlife might just be THE moment for us to take stock of the strengths and wounds we've inherited, the experiences that have shaped our sense of self, and the parts of ourselves that we’ve spent years trying to fix. What do we do with that inventory once done? We celebrate the human we’ve become, warts and all, as they say.
I'm Jennifer, and welcome to My Midlife Memoir: An Ode to Self. I have done a lot of work on myself. Between the countless self-help books I’ve read and the therapy offices I’ve visited during the first forty-some years of my life, I have a PhD in the study of, well, myself! I also feel I am expert-level at surviving. I also have a PhD in sociology where I have been researching intergenerational and racial trauma for nearly a decade. Now, on the cusp of turning fifty, I’m bringing all these areas of expertise together to write a memoir about how the past influences our self-understanding, how we begin to make sense of the things we've carried across generations, and how we reclaim the parts of ourselves we lost to things like shame.
I'm bringing you along with me as I write it. I’ll be sharing reflections on life and writing, uncomfortable truths, and unexpected connections, all from the perspective of a woman in midlife who is committed to making midlife and beyond be the best era of her life yet.
Because this isn't just about understanding our pain. It's about recognizing our resilience, reclaiming our joy, and celebrating how far we've come.
We're allowed to take our healing seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
So, if you're ready to explore where you've come from, make peace with the person you've been, and celebrate the person you're becoming, you're in the right place.
This is My Midlife Memoir: An Ode to Self.
Here's to the stories that shaped us, the lives we're still creating, and learning to love ourselves along the way.
